Although the first thing to come to mind about oral and dental health is a good appearance, the reality is much more than this. Oral and dental health is in fact a major indicator of a person’s general health. A healthy mouth is free of chronic tissue pain, oral lesions and other conditions.
A huge number of microorganisms is present in the mouth and major problems may arise in the lack of good oral hygiene. Decayed teeth, tartar and dental plates increase the amount and variety of bacteria. These bacteria pose a threat not only to oral and dental health, but to general health. Remember that dysfunction of any organism has a negative impact on the body as a whole.
We should care for oral and dental health!
Individuals with moderate or severe gingival diseases are under a greater risk of heart disease as compared to those with healthy gums. Bacteria and microbes taken orally and distributed across the body via blood vessels are the cause of the relation between oral health and cardiovascular diseases.
Bacteria reaching the heart or other damaged parts of the body can result with inflammation. And this may result with endocarditis, in other words infection of the endocardium. Even if there is no visible gingivitis, lack of oral hygiene or accumulation of bacteria plates can still pose a risk. Bacteria in blood vessels can result with heart diseases.
